Our aftercare program runs from 3:00 – 5:45, Monday – Friday, and is open to students attending other schools. Please complete this form to receive more details.

   

Aftercare activities include:

Snack: Students staying in aftercare will receive a nutritious snack: fruit, veggies, cheese, crackers, yogurt, etc.
Outdoor play: Students will have a minimum of 30 minutes of outdoor play time on our playground.
Homework: Students will be able to finish their homework with the help of teachers and staff.
Reading time: Independent readers will have time to complete their daily reading assignments. Beginning readers can pair up with older students or with a staff member for guided reading.
Games: Students who have completed homework and reading will have access to a large assortment of table games and puzzles.
Crafts: We will have a craft activity planned for each day of after-care. For example: origami, perler beads, clay modeling, etc.

* Multiple levels offered. Students will be tested and placed into the appropriate class at enrollment.

We plan to offer the following afterschool clubs (included in a student’s tuition):

Math team: Prepare for various math competitions including Math Kangaroo (for grades 1-8), Noetic (for grades 2-8), NEML (for grades 4-8), MOEMS (for grades 4-8), IMLEM (for grades 6-8), Mathcounts (for grades 6-8), and AMC 8 (for grades 6-8).
Book club: Read and discuss books chosen by member of the club. Book clubs will be divided by grade level and facilitated by a member of our English faculty.
Literary magazine: A selection of student-created poems, short stories, and artwork will be featured in the school’s literary magazine. 
Cooking club: Each week, students will learn cooking and baking techniques by making (and eating) at least one recipe (including breakfast and lunch items and desserts).  
Outdoor club: Students will learn about and participate in a number of outdoor activities including hiking, camping, and boating.
Knitting/sewing club: Learn how to knit, sew, and crochet. Students will work on a project of their choice (hat, scarf, stuffed animal, etc.).
Gardening club: This club will be responsible for the planters around the school. Students will select a variety of plants and flowers and learn how to care for them. 

The following activities will be available for an additional fee:

Math class: Enrichment math classes for non-Lumen Academy students based on Singapore Math.
Taekwondo: In partnership with a local studio, students will learn taekwondo increasing strength, stamina, quickness, flexibility, coordination, and balance.
Rock climbing: Additional information will be added shortly.
Chess: Small classes allow students to develop their skills and play against one another.
Theater: Under the guidance of our theater teacher, students will select, cast, rehearse, and perform a number of short plays throughout the year.
Visual art: Students will work on a variety of projects using a range of media (for example, paint, pencil, and clay).  
Piano: Half-hour or hour long lessons available.
Violin: Half-hour or hour long lessons available.
Vocal lessons: Half-hour or hour long lessons available.

Woodshop/engineering: Hands on projects, based on demand, such as: birdhouses, CO2 cars, balsa wood bridges, geodesic dome, Rube Goldberg devices, solar powered ovens. Students will also learn how to create 3D models using Google SketchUp (CADD).
Mixed Media brought by Artuzio: Set free your child’s inner artist to unleash a whirlwind of creativity across a diverse palette of materials and methods! Projects include: Paint pouring, Resin, Spray Paint, Friendship Bracelets, Tie-Dye Clothing, Collage and Card Making, Painted Rocks, Photography, Doodle and color hour.
